Cloth-Bound Red Leicester

Cloth-bound Red Leicester is a traditional English cheese made from cow’s milk and matured in breathable cloth to develop its distinctive depth of flavour. This time-honoured method allows the cheese to mature slowly, resulting in a firm yet crumbly texture and a rich, nutty character. Its deep orange colour and natural rind reflect its artisanal production and careful ageing.

On the palate, it is savoury and well-rounded with caramelised, nutty notes and a lingering, slightly sweet finish. More complex than standard Red Leicester, the cloth-bound version is ideal for cheese boards, grating, or enjoying simply with crusty bread and chutney.

fun fact

Before wax coatings became common, many traditional British cheeses were cloth-bound, a method that helps develop deeper flavour and a natural rind.
